VICE-CHANCELLOR’S AWARD FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE
CANDIDATE
Dr Yun Zhou is a lecturer in Chinese Language and Studies. She specialises in Chinese history, gender and religion. She began convening courses in 2019 and was the recipient of a 2020 Award for Excellence in Language Teaching at the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific. She envisions language learning as a process of engaging in different worlds. By incorporating various aspects of life into language courses, Yun encourages students to develop holistically.
"I implement innovative ideas in language teaching that reflect the command of the field, and endeavour to design language courses in which the skills learned could extend into various aspects of life."
"I firmly believe that the small departures from textbook sources to interpret and reflect on real situations not only instil vigour into language learning but also enhance students’ adaptability and resilience, teaching them how to adjust to new circumstances and environments."
