VICE-CHANCELLOR’S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN TUTORING OR DEMONSTRATING
RECIPIENT
Ms Marina Hirose is an educator in Japanese language. She is passionate about teaching the language and culture and getting to know more about her students. Her student-oriented, interactive teaching style is the product of teaching more than 1400 first-year students at ANU since 2018. Marina’s research on teaching methods of Japanese spoken grammar creates a rich, research-led teaching environment. She received the 2021 CAP Award for Excellence in Tutoring.
“It makes me happy to see students enjoy learning together because language learning can take majority of time memorizing vocabulary, grammar rules or expressions – so a lot of time spent individually. Yet, working with partners/groups or learning from peers has a big impact on reducing unnecessary stress ...”
“Learning a new language opens up a new perspective of seeing the world slightly differently and accepting other cultures, behaviours and mannerisms that lead to the diversity and respect.”
