VICE-CHANCELLOR’S CITATION FOR
OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO STUDENT LEARNING

RECIPIENT

How do you convert a large, highly interactive introductory engineering course so it can be delivered remotely? Thinking creatively about how to provide the key elements of interaction, accountability and support for our students during the COVID years improved student learning and experience. We built in flexibility and designed high quality on-campus experiences to make Discovering Engineering a fun, welcoming and supportive introduction to both engineering and university.

“I've seen students who just seemed to really appreciate being heard, recognised and validated that this is a difficult thing that they're doing, and the fact that they're struggling doesn't mean they're failing.”
Dr Fiona Beck

“I got really excited about the interactive learning and teaching that Jeremy Smith and the other conveners within engineering were doing. I got really excited about the authentic problem-based learning that we were using to teach engineering design which was taught to me in a very dry and boring way.”
Ms Jenny Simmons

“What keeps me motivated is seeing students reach their full potential and especially seeing students develop a sense of personal meaning and contribution to the world.”
Professor Kylie Catchpole
