CANDIDATE
Mr Edmund Handby’s approach to tutoring revolves around ensuring that students are motivated and engaged with often dense and dry course materials. Pedagogically, Ed’s approach has two main focuses: first, to encourage students to enjoy course materials, and second, to emphasise how abstract concepts can tie into real-world scenarios. To do so, Ed draws on, and contributes to, literature on active learning and classroom games.
“I think students are really important for challenging me just as I challenge them and that we typically think that academia is a dialogue between academics but that should extend to dialogues between students.”
“Just as I can help students see a particular perspective and they can help me, I hope that my views on teaching – and the value that I place on teaching – can inspire my colleagues in the department as well, so they have a similar appreciation of the role and the value of teaching.”
